Practice history

There has been a general medical practice in Buxted since 1910. Dr David Wright (Senior Partner) joined as a partner in 1992 and Dr Elizabeth Gill joined as a partner in 2010. Dr Sarah Perry began working at the surgery in 2009 and became a partner in 2019.

In 2001 Buxted Medical Centre adopted East Hoathly as a branch surgery, and in 2012 Buxted and East Hoathly surgeries moved in to their own new surgery premises.

We have an on-site pharmacy at Buxted and also offer a dispensary service from our Buxted and East Hoathly sites. Patients are able to use our dispensing services if they live at least one mile from their nearest pharmacy (the Buxted on site pharmacy is excluded for the purpose of ascertaining which patients are eligible).

In 2018 due to the partners at Manor Oak Surgery (located in Horam) wishing to step down, Buxted Medical Centre merged with Manor Oak Surgery. This provided a mechanism for providing continuity of medical services for the patients located in that area.

In December 2020 it was our honour to be one of the first GP surgeries in the country to participate in the Covid 19 vaccination roll out, a service which we have continued to provide alongside our everyday services.

As of January 2022 the practice (working from our three sites) looks after a combined list of approximately 15,000 patients. In this regard, we currently have a team of approximately 90 staff who are committed to supporting the provision of medical services to our local area.
